The coin commemorates the ending in 1921 of 160 years of British Colonialism and is the third in the Maltese constitutional history series.
In 1919 a national assembly was held to formulate suggestions for a new constitution. A conflict with the military in June resulted in four Maltese being shot. Progress towards a new constitution was speeded up and this came into force in 1921 and granted the Maltese complete internal independence.
In the inner circle a map of Malta is shown above which is a group of Malese citizens -men ,women and children.
On the edge of the inner circle, from twelve to two o’clock, is the inscription ”MALTA – self-government 1921”. The year of issue 2013 is at the bottom. The coin has no mint mark.
