This coin commemorates the 500th anniversary of the death of Raffaello(Raphael) Sanzio da Urbino.
Raphael was a painter of the Italian High Renaissance. He was active in both Florence and at thr papal court in Rome.
He is known above all for his Madonna paintings which are seen as harmonius and balanced compositions.
A self portrait which is in fact a part of a fresco - "The School of Athens" has been chosen as the motif for the coin.
Raphael is seen on the left half of the coin's inner circle. On the right are two rather contemplative cherubs.Running around the edge of the inner circle, from twelve to three o'clock is the inscription "RAFFAELLO SANZIO" and immediately above the cherubs are the date of Raphael's death and the year of issue of the coin - 1520 and 2020.
Under the cherubs is the name of the issuing state "RAFFAELLO SANZIO" and immediately thereunder the mint mark "R".
Finally at the bottom of the coin - six o'clock to five o'clock are the name of the designer “D.LONGO”, the ligated initials "SP" of the engraver and the designation "inc".
